Roles & Responsibilities in your Rehabilitation Journey

January 1st, 2026

The Rehabilitation Services and Vocational Assistance Program (RSVP) is all about helping you overcome challenges caused by your service-related eligible health problems.

Think of your rehabilitation as a journey, and we're here to walk alongside you. This journey is a team effort, and you are the most important player on this team.

Let's explore your role and meet the dedicated team members who will be supporting you every step of the way.

How You Make a Difference

Your active participation is key to a successful rehabilitation journey. Here’s what it means to be an active partner in your program:

  • Be Ready to Participate: You should be ready to get started and actively take part in all parts of your rehabilitation journey. This means attending all scheduled appointments, doing the recommended activities, and working towards your goals.
  • Share Your Story & Paperwork: To help build the best Rehabilitation Plan for you, we'll need you to complete some forms and provide information. This helps us understand your needs and determine next steps.
  • Attend your Appointments: Your Rehabilitation Plan will include assessments and services. It’s important to attend these appointments and complete any activities at home, as your team suggests. If you can't make an appointment, please let us know within two business days.
  • Keep Us Updated: Life happens! If your situation changes, or you have questions about your progress, please tell your team. Good communication helps us adjust your Rehabilitation Plan if needed.
  • Support a Respectful Environment: We believe in creating a safe and positive space for you and everyone involved in your rehabilitation journey.
  • Expense Claims: If you have approved rehabilitation expenses , it's important to submit your claims to us correctly and on time. Doing so helps ensure you receive your reimbursement quickly. If you have any questions about this process, please reach out to your Rehabilitation Service Specialist (RSS). They're here to help!

Your Team Around You: Working Together for Your Success

At PCVRS, we use a "Team Around the Participant" approach. This means you're never alone! You have a dedicated group of health care experts working together to support your unique journey. Let’s meet your team:

  • Your VAC Case Manager:
Your Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) Case Manager is your main contact at VAC and the decision-maker for your rehabilitation journey. They understand your overall situation, approve your personalized rehabilitation plan, and make sure it fits with VAC’s programs and policies. They are there to help you understand your options and connect you to the right support.
  • Your Rehabilitation Service Specialist (RSS):
Your RSS is your main contact at PCVRS. They are the coordinator of your Rehabilitation Plan. They help figure out what assessments you need, put together your personalized plan, and keep in touch with everyone on your team to make sure things are running smoothly. They'll also check in with you regularly on your progress.
  • Your Rehabilitation Service Professional (RSP):
Your RSPs are the hands-on rehabilitation experts who deliver your specific services, like physiotherapy, counselling, or occupational therapy. They conduct assessments, provide treatments, and share updates about your progress. They work closely with your RSS to ensure your rehabilitation services are tailored to you and help you reach your goals.

Working Together for Your Success

Every member of your team has a key role, but your active participation is what truly makes the difference. By working together, you, your VAC Case Manager, your RSS, and your RSPs can build a strong path forward.

Have more questions about your role or your team? Don't hesitate to reach out to your RSS or VAC Case Manager. We're here to help you every step of the way! You can also find more detailed information in your PCVRS Participant Guide.
